Getting Started
What's so great about your paint?
We’re so glad you asked! We’re certain that you’ll love our paint once you use it, but let me tell you why:
First of all, Country Chic Paint is eco-friendly and pretty much odorless! This is a huge plus when you consider your health, your family and the environment. Secondly, the paint is super easy to use – there is little to no prep work and it dries really quickly! Thirdly, we love how easy it is to create a distressed look without using sanding tools… all you need is a wet cloth. Want to know more about distressing? Click here for more info.
Is this a chalk-style paint?
Not exactly – it’s even better! Our All-in-One Decor Paint is a clay-based formula that has even more amazing coverage and adhesion than traditional chalk-based paints you might be used to. It still has the same beautiful, matte finish that you love from a chalk-style paint, but it has a built-in primer and top coat so it requires less prep work and it’s more durable. BONUS: if you love rustic or shabby chic furniture, it distresses beautifully as well!
I need help picking or combining a color.
We would love to help! On this page you can see all our currently available paint colors. There are even some suggested layered color combinations towards the bottom of the page. You are also welcome to take our Color Quiz where we suggest 3 of our beautiful colors for your next project!
We have found that the following neutral colors are always very popular: Vanilla Frosting, Liquorice, Simplicity and Cheesecake. These are our top sellers. If you want to use some color, we’d suggest trying Elegance, Bliss or Sage Advice as a great place to start!
To help you see what the actual paint colors look like, we offer hand painted color cards. You just pay a small shipping & handling fee and then you can see all our colors in your own space. Every room has different lighting and tones so the charts can be a real help when it comes to choosing that perfect color or color combination.

Is your paint and wax paint safe? Can I paint indoors?
Yes, it is one of the safest furniture paints on the market today! It is eco-friendly and doesn’t contain, toxins, or other hazardous ingredients. So this is a big plus for your health and the environment. No paint should ever be ingested, and as such, we recommend that you keep it out of reach of children.
If you’re interested in learning more about the ingredients in our paint, check out our VOC and Toy Safety test results by clicking here. You can also view our Technical Data Sheets (TDSs) right here.
Our furniture wax contains beeswax and other natural waxes and oils. It does NOT contain any mineral solvents and it is not flammable.
Both paint and wax can be used indoors, however, we always recommend to crack open a window for a bit of fresh air.
What are the VOC levels in your paint?
All of our products contain zero to ultra-low VOC levels so they’re very environmentally friendly.
For full details of our VOC contents including downloadable reports, please click here.

How much paint do I need?
That’s a question that isn’t easy for us to answer as it depends on a lot of things. If you have just a small little project, such as a small stool or chair, you’ll likely get away with using just a 4 oz sample jar. For a dresser, you will want to get at least a pint size. Typically you will cover at least 120 square feet with a quart, 60 square feet with a pint, and 15 square feet with a sample jar.
How do I open the seal on my paint jar?
The induction seals on every jar we ship out keep your product fresh. They also help to avoid spills and leaks during shipping. However, they can sometimes be a bit tricky to remove. Watch this demo video to help you remove your seal completely and without mess.
Can I mix colors?
Yes, absolutely! You can mix any of our colors to create colors that are uniquely your own. Click here for a color mixing tutorial including a video that shows you exactly how to do it!
We also have some recipes right here to help get your imagination running.

Please note that we can only ship to physical addresses and not PO Boxes with FedEx and UPS. If you entered a PO Box, your order will be shipped with Canada Post or you may be asked for an alternate address.
What happens if my package is lost?
In the event that a package is lost, the carrier will try to recover the package. If the package is indeed lost by the carrier, we will send out a replacement order to you immediately. If the lost package is in result of the wrong address inputted on the order, we will determine each case the best we can, and there may be additional fees depending on the circumstances.

Products and Projects
How should I prep my piece?
Most of the time, there is very little you need to do in terms of prep work. You do want to make sure that your piece is clean, dust-free and is mold-free.
If the piece has been painted before, make sure there is no loose or scaling paint (unless you don’t mind that the new coat will chip away). It all depends on the look you’re going for! If the surface is glossy, then we recommend you sand it lightly with 120 grit sandpaper so the paint adheres better.
Certain types of wood may cause the stain to bleed through to the paint, leaving it looking yellow or pink. To avoid this, you’ll need to apply a stain-blocking primer (such as Shellac) before you paint. If you’ve started painting already, you can also apply it over the paint, let it dry and continue painting with a new coat.
Before you start painting, always make sure the surface is dry and the temperature is approximately between 10°C (50°F) and 30°C (86°F). If it’s too hot the paint will dry too quickly and if it’s too cold or too humid the paint will take a long time to dry.
Please visit our surface prep tutorial for detailed instructions!
What kind of brushes should I use?
Our paint is water-based and doesn’t contain any solvents. Therefore, natural bristle brushes are not recommended to use because they absorb water, which causes the bristles to flare or become too soft to paint effectively.
Our line of brushes was selected specifically for use with our paint and wax – they are made from a special blend of synthetic bristles which will allow you to easily apply the paint to your piece without noticeable brush strokes. These brushes are high-quality and will last you a very long time.
Can I use your paint in a sprayer?
Yes, you can use our paint in a sprayer! If you are going to water it down, we recommend only adding 10% water to the paint. Also, keep in mind that each sprayer is different, so you might have to experiment with your ratio a little bit.
How do I distress my piece? How can I create a shabby chic look?
One of the awesome things about our paint is that it is super easy to distress. You don’t even need sandpaper! Take a look at our distressing tutorial to see how it is done.
Do I have to distress my piece? I like a more modern look!
No. You are absolutely free to leave your piece untouched and not distress it! Just finish with wax after your final paint coat and you’ll have a stunning piece for your home!
Can I paint kitchen cabinets with Country Chic Paint?
Yes, our All-In-One Decor Paint is wonderful for painting kitchen cabinets! We have a tutorial available that shows you how to paint cabinets, so make sure to read and watch this tutorial before you start.
Can I use your paint & wax on outdoor pieces?
Our All-In-One Decor Paint is designed for outdoor furniture as well as indoor furniture, so yes, you can definitely use our paint outside! When you are putting your project in a covered area, then you don’t need to worry about using a top coat. However, if your piece is going to get rained on, we highly recommend finishing your project with Clear Coat so it will last a lot longer!
Wax isn’t recommended for outdoor use as the heat can melt the wax and you wouldn’t want a sticky piece of furniture, of course!
How do I finish a table top?
For table tops, as well as kitchen cabinets, we have developed Clear Coat, an extremely durable finish that provides excellent protection for table tops and kitchen cabinets. You’ll find it at our retailers or in our online shop.
Here are some tips for working with Clear Coat:
- First of all, Clear Coat should be applied only to painted pieces that have dried for at least 24 hours. It might be better to wait a bit longer if you have painted several coats, or if it is cold or humid.
- Clear Coat (as well as the paint) needs to be stirred thoroughly before use.
- Do NOT shake the can, as this will incorporate air in the product and bubbles in the finish.
- You want to make sure that the temperature you are working in doesn’t exceed 70F or 21C.
- Use a clean foam brush to apply Clear Coat.
- You also don’t want to keep going back and forth over the same area. It is best to apply in long strokes and not go over the same section when it’s started to dry (and it’ll dry quickly).
- Make sure to apply a coat that is neither too thin or too thick. Too thin will mean that it’ll look blotchy and too thick and you’ll get drips.
- Try to apply only little pressure: too much pressure and it might start getting a bit foamy and bubbly.
- If it dries too quickly, you can add up to 5% water.
Should I use glaze or antiquing wax to give my piece a rustic, aged look?
The finishing product you choose will depend a bit on the look you’re trying to achieve, and also what the piece will be used for. Both antiquing wax and glaze are designed to give your piece age and depth, but they have different colors and very different application methods. Click here to see examples of antiquing wax and glaze or click here to see our tutorial about the differences in our finishing products where you’ll not only see the various results, but we’ll also demonstrate the different application methods.
If you’re refurbishing a piece that will get a lot of traffic or heavy usage, we recommend using a glaze so that you can seal your work with Clear Coat to give it the best protection possible. Clear Coat cannot be applied over wax as it’s a water-based product that won’t adhere properly over an oily product like wax. If you’re project will not be used as heavily and you’d just like a nice, professional-looking finish, then antiquing wax may be the way to go!
When I paint something white, why does it turn pink/yellowish?
It’s so frustrating when that happens! Certain types of wood or nicotine residue, may cause the stain to bleed through to the paint, leaving it looking yellow or pink. To avoid this, you’ll need to apply a stain-blocking primer (such as Shellac) before you paint. If you’ve started painting already, you can also apply it over the paint, let it dry and continue painting with a new coat.
How do I care for my painted furniture?
We recommend cleaning your painted furniture and home decor with a slightly dampened cloth. If you have used wax on your piece, you’ll probably want to re-apply some wax every 6-12 months. If you used Hemp Oil on your piece, you’ll want to re-apply every 12-24 months.
